PUTTU
Puttu is made up of steamed rice flour and grated coconut. It is very popular in Kerala in INDIA and Sri Lanka. It is also called pittu. It is steamed recipe and sprinkling sugar or jaggery. It is breakfast in Kerala. It is eaten with a side dish like fish curry, prawn fry etc.we can use ragi flour also. It is a very easy dish and quick recipe.
Let's start to prepare puttu:
Ingredients:
- Rice flour - 4cups
- Coconut - 1cup
- Salt - pinch of
- Sugar/jaggery - 1 1/2cups
- Ghee - 3 spoons
- Ilachi / cardamon - 3
PREPARATION:
- Place rice flour in a big vessel.
- Take 1/2 glass of water adds a pinch of salt.
- sprinkling the water in the rice flour.
- mix the water into the flour.
- Just wet the rice flour and don't add too much of water.
- Take finely grated coconut.
- Take a fresh coconut and cut into small pieces and add ilachi or cardamon and make a rough texture in a mixer jar.
- Puttu maker is available in the market.
- In the puttu maker mould, add one layer rice flour, then another layer grated coconut, last layer filled with rice flour.
- Steam it for 10-15 minutes.
- When it cooked, open the mould and push the puttu with a spatula.
- In the same way, steam the remaining flour.
- Let it cool for some time.
- Now add ghee and sugar.
- Tasty puttu is ready to eat.
If you don't have puttu maker use idli moulds/idli maker. You can use ragi flour, wheat flour etc. It is a simple dish at evening snack time.
