During rainy day, I am preparing prawns curry and for this recipe I used fresh water prawns.We can prepare this prawns curry  within half an hour by using simple ingredients. Prawns takes less boiling time,  that's why we can spend less time for preparation of any prawns recipies.

 

There are two varieties of prawns available in market, one is fresh water prawns and second one is salt water [ sea ] prawns.We can prepare different varieties of recipies with prawns like prawns curry, prawns fry, prawns-red sorrel leaves curry etc recipies and I had already post gongura-prawns curry / prawns - red sorrel leaves curry .But today I am sharing prawn curry with simple ingredients and it's preparation is very easy.Prawns curry is best combination with hot steamed rice, roti.

 

LET'S START TO PREPARE PRAWNS CURRY:





INGREDIENTS:

  • Prawns - 1 KG


  • Onions - 6 big onions

 

  • Tomatoes - 1


  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 spoons



 

  • Red chilli powder - 1 1/2 spoon

 

  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 spoon

 

  • Salt - 1 spoon


  • Oil - 5 spoons

 

  • Garam masala - 1 spoon

 

  • Curry leaves - 1 spoon

 

  • Coriander leaves - 1 spoon

 

  •  Cloves - 3

 

  • Sompu/ fennel seeds - 1/4 spoon

 

  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 spoon


GARAM MASALA PREPARATION:

  • Coriander seeds - 1 spoon

 

  • Cumin seeds/ jeera - 1/2 spoon

 

  • Sompu / fennel seeds - 1/4 spoon

 

  • Cloves - 4

 

  • Cinnamon - 1


  • Heat a vessel on the stove, add all above ingredients in the vessel and roast it well in medium flame.

 

  • After cooling the above ingredients make a fine powder with the help of mixture jar.

 

  • Masala powder is ready to use.


 

PREPARATION OF PRAWNS CURRY: 

  • First of all, clean the prawns properly. 

  • Chopped the onions into small pieces.

 

 

  • As a same way chopped the tomatoes also.

 

  • Heat a big vessel/ Pan/ kadai on the stove, add oil, cloves, sompu, Cumin seeds, chopped onions.

 

  • Roast the chopped onions at least 5mins in medium flame and saute  till the onions turn transperent.

 

  • Now add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves, combine well and again roast it for 2-3 mins.

 

  • Now add unboiled fresh water prawns, required salt, turmeric powder into the kadai.



 

  • Mix all the ingredients well and close the lid, cook it for 10 mins in medium flame.



 

  • Open the lid, add chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder and again cook it for 15 mins.

 

  • Open the lid, add 1glass of water, garam Masala, coriander leaves  and taste the curry. In this moment, if we want more spiciness we will add extra red chilli powder ,salt as per your taste.



 

  • Cook it for another 10 mins,when the gravy became thick then switch off the stove.

 

  • Delicious and mouth watering prawns curry is ready to serve with hot steamed white rice, roti.

 

TIPS:




  • In this recipe I used unboiled tiger prawns.

  • If you want to use boiled prawns also.

  • If we use boiled prawns, the Preparation time takes only 15-20 mins.

  • If we use unboiled prawns ,the Preparation time takes 30 minutes.
